China Media Research Call for Submissions
Theme: The State of News - Production, Consumption, and Transformation in the Era of Digital Media
This special section of China Media Research invites scholars from diverse perspectives and approaches to submit manuscripts on the theme of “The State of News: Production, Consumption, and Transformation in the Era of Digital Media”. The rapid development of digital media technologies has profound impacts on the news industry and research on news in general, from its production, consumption to even the definition of news. News is no longer generated by an elite few and news is no longer consumed the way it used to be. The line between traditional, hard news is blurred with entertainment news, and even entertainment. This special section aims to examine the latest research on news, from its definition, to its practices, and from its production, representation, to its consumption.
This special section is especially interested in the studies that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
l The impact of digital and interactive media technologies on news;
l The production of news, and its transformative processes;
l News consumption patterns and consumption issues;
l Various theoretical models developed for the studies of news, including meta-analyses;
l Comparative studies of news, including its systems, cultures, and presentations;
l Functional of news;
l Social and psychological roles of news;
l News learning;
l News in media organizations
