This study aims to explore how news media represent female athletes image in masculine sport. Content analyses and discourse analysis of news coverage during 2007, Nov. to 2008, Nov. six women basketball contests in Taiwan. The research result shows that different from the description of other feminine sport, news coverage of women basketball usually use masculine terms to describe the female athletes. And physical appearance is not the main reason to become the main role in news, but when it comes to athletes’ nickname, which always based on the appearance of players. Besides, we also found that players private domain is also the important point in news coverage, including marriage life, affection and other career plan etc. this result imply that although the description of women basketball players breaks the sexual stereotype, the media still construct social sexual role image in the news coverage.
