After lifting of the Martial Law in 1987 and increasing contact with China, there has been a lot of discussion about Taiwan's national identity. However, related studies in the past focused on ethnic history, theories of nationalism and external factors. There is a lack of studies of national identity among the different generations. Hence, the purpose of this study is to understand the formation and unfolding of national identity among Taiwan ’s young people through text and content analysis of the documentary "Chia-wan matchup",its official blog and focus group interviews. The result of this study indicated that while it is still complex and difficult for young generation in Taiwan to assume national identity, they are not indifferent to this issue.Their perception of Taiwanese national identity can be summarized mainly as heterogeneous and diversified. Influence on national identity from their families still exists. But the shaping power from provincial, ethic and school education is waning. Till now, the young generation only take on national identity actively through their support of sports competitions. It is suggested that future national campaigns to integrate national identity in Taiwan can be diversified from sports into arts and culture-oriented aspects and also from grassroots to governmental levels.
