This survey aims to explore the optimistic bias phenomenon and the influence of optimistic bias, self-efficacy, and social trust on intentions to take H1N1 vaccination as Taiwanese face the threat of H1N1. An Internet-based study was conducted from December 24, 2009 to January 31, 2010 in Taiwan and 662 respondents completed the questionnaire online. The results show that optimistic bias phenomenon exists.Optimistic bias and self-efficacy significantly and negatively predict intentions to take H1N1 vaccination, respectively, while social trust significantly and positively predicts such intentions. This study suggests that Taiwan government need to eliminate the phenomenon of optimistic bias and unrealistic self-efficacy, to reinforcement social trust, and to foster health communication effectiveness in order to back up intentions to take H1N1 vaccination.
