Combined with traditional Chinese and western cultures, HK distinguishes itself from the Mainland culture. Therefore, a study on the adaptation of the Mainland students who study in HK universities could bear academic and social significances. What ’s more, the highly developed media industry in HK enables the researchers to adopt a communication approach on this subject. This paper, then, by implementing acculturation theory, conducts a quantitative research method to explore the relationship between Mainland students’ media uses and their acculturations. Based on an analysis of 447 effective questionnaires, this paper validates that the Mainland students who have a higher degree of media uses will correspondingly report higher cultural cognitive and behavioral degrees, namely, they will better know and accept HK’s social system and HK people’s living habits, in addition, they will be more positive in participating social interactions and cultural activities. Besides, this paper finds that, old media, such as the newspaper and television mostly familiarize the Mainland students with HK cultural knowledge. In contrast, the new media, internet, mainly plays a positive role in facilitating the students in their acculturation in terms of the attitudes.
