Examining the Relationship between Audience’s Sensation Seeking Differences and Behaviors to Read Agonistic Images on Newspapers
Nowadays tabloidization is a common phenomenon in Taiwan’s media environment. The “agonistic images” are widely used by newspapers. This study launches an experiment to test the relationship between audience’s sensation seeking differences and the rate of memories and evaluations toward newspaper with images induce anger, fear and disgust. The researchers’ hypotheses are that the sensation seeking differences among audiences would affect their memory and evaluation performances toward news with agonistic images. The result indicates that the sensation seeking differences did influence audience’s evaluation toward news on newspaper. High sensation seekers evaluate images that induce anger, fear and disgust higher than low sensation seekers do. However, in this research, there are not significant relationship between sensation seeking differences and audience’s memory towards news on newspaper.
