Since 1956, “U online”, the newspaper published by the department of Journalism in NCCU, has been providing students with the “ learning by doing” course, letting students know techniques of news interviewing and news writing by on-the-spot interview. In traditional, news interviewing could be regarded as information collection and pursuit of the fact, but in this study, the writer tried to think outside the box by observing how the knowledge transformed through the interviewing processes, and trying to explore that how do student journalists become quasi-expert journalist. The result shows that establishing “personal knowledge database” is the most important for novice journalist. Every prior preparing is helpful for them to get familiar with beat, strengthen depth of questions and speed up reaction rate. Moreover, interacting with respondents is also the crucial process for novice journalist to build up interviewing concept. But, for the students, the identity of journalist is the key point to become quasi-expert journalist.
