Excessive Online Game Play: Potential Gaming Addiction among Hong Kong Players
The study draws attention on online gaming patterns, examining the excessive playing behavior that potentially addictive among Hong Kong Players. Adapted an addiction scale from previous studies, this research survey a pool of 320 random respondents drawn from different game centers of 2 chain shops in Hong Kong, collecting data on players’ demographics, online game patterns, perceived online game impact and potential addictive symptoms. It is found out that people’s age and education are negatively related to online game addiction; while gaming time is positively correlated with addiction. In addition, the negative perception of online game impact is a significant predictor of addictive game play. The current study is lack of broader sample size and further research should overcome it with more in-depth qualitative methods supported.
