Public media in Malaysia are encountering a movement of digitalization which plays a critical role in the democratic transition process.The purpose of this essay is to research the relationship between the media and the public sphere. By utilizing a demonstration of Bersih 2.0 on 9th of July, 2011 as an example, the essay discusses the phenomenon that the public considers the new media as new approaches to change existed political system. The research adopts the interview as the proper method in the study. Interviews reveal that modern social networks have a considerable influence in social movements. This research find out four concepts: first, an alternative public sphere has provided a new form to express public opinion. The second point, emotional mobilization offers a mechanism to acquire major opinion and to conduct risk analysis, which are beneficial to develop the final social movement. Third, culture resistance is created by enhancing support of youth generation. Finally, ethnic identity has developed and has become a symbol of a global connection.
