In the last ten years, Taiwanese Women Comedians have become commonplace in popular media. However, humor is never neutral, and has long been seen as the realm of men. Masculine humor lies in so-called "funny" jokes, but a proper young lady is not allowed to partake in such humor. This has led to Women Comedians being in the difficult position of attempting to escape the shadow of male comedians. In this article, through both content and contextual analysis, the researcher attempts to explore how Taiwanese Women Comedians construct their images in variety shows and whether it is possible for female comedians to counter or even reverse patriarchal influences.
