Classical music has been suffering frequent assault from both the communication technologies and capitalism in the society of the 21 st century. Under the various influences of factors such as capitalization, commodification and technological reproduction, what has become of the essence and nature of classical music today? This research will utilize the concept of culture industry developed by Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer, together with Martin Heidegger’s discussion on technique its impact on essence and “Being”, to formulate a study of the transformation of the essence of classical music under the age of modern communication technology.
