Social network sites enable users to interact with friends and maintain relationships. In terms of unique situational factors on Facebook, however, the expanding social network scope and scale require users to cope with huge numbers of complicated relationships in formulated and standardized ways. These formulated actions practiced repeatedly on Facebook have become ritualized and thus shape the particular cultural landscape. Based on personality, situational factors and Goffman’s interaction ritual theory, this study tries to elaborate the social interaction rituals of Facebook.
