The online-only news website has been popular in Taiwan. The present study use the Resource-Based View (RBV) approach of strategic management to analyze what kind of resource the online-only news websites have and what kind of competitive advantages they will possess. For the type the resource, the present study conducts the Miller and Shamsie’s (1996) resource category. The present study analyzes three main online-only news websites in Taiwan: NOWnews, Newtalk and Awakening. The in-depth interview is used as the methodology. The result shows that in addition to the subscription and advertisement business models. The “case” model is the main way for these websites to make their profits. Using RBV to analyze these websites, the result shows that knowledge-based resource has been emphasized in order to compete with the main-stream news websites.
