國際新聞不受重視，新聞工作者該如何令本地的受眾燃起對國際事件的興趣與意義？本研究透過國光石化開發案，這個台灣和馬來西亞相關的新聞議題，以兩地對此案的新聞報導進行比較性研究，分析兩地的新聞工作者在新聞報導上如何「馴化」事件的過程和結果。這裡指的「國際新聞馴化」是媒體將國際事件經過一連串策略而呈現給本地閱聽眾的過程，讓閱聽眾覺得經過「馴化」後的國際新聞不是遠在他方、不關己事的事件，而是和自己國家或自身息息相關的大事。本研究採用內容分析法分析兩國報章對國光石化開發案的報導，並從中觀察兩國在新聞馴化過程中存在的異同。

International news is always being neglected by audiences, how do journalists attracted audiences to pay attention on international news? This study seeks to understand about domestication of international news through Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Project which is related to Taiwan and Malaysia’s development, and make a comparative study between both countries’ media reports on domestication of events and results. Domestication refers to the process of transforming the international events by media, using some strategies to show the local audiences that the domesticated news is not far away from them but is highly related to them. This study is using content analysis method to analyze both countries’ news reporting on Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Project, and find out the differences between them.
