本研究著重在社群網站所隱涉的離線生活狀態和發展出來的真實戀愛關係，主要檢視社群網站在未婚使用者眼中戀愛關係發展的涵意，並以學Knapp (1978)提出的「關係發展階段模式」來檢視此項通訊網路科技的新視野。本質化研究探索藉由臉書平台逐漸產生的戀愛關係階段，尋求找出臉書上開始正式公開「感情狀態」的關係涵意。研究結果顯示臉書在其用戶們的愛戀關係發展中扮演重要角色，也改變使用者的交友方式，甚至改變當時伴侶訊息的蒐集方式，而正式公開感情狀態暗示著在戀愛關係中增進承諾程度。與傳統交友模式較大的差異點，在於臉書的使用介入讓感情關係維持提早於交往試驗階段出現，不同於傳統模式在關係緊密階段產生。

This study focused on the implications of social networking sites within romantic relationship development of unmarried people, and examined the uses’ offline life styles and real romantic relationship developed hidden behind using the sites. In order to examine the new vision of mobile communication, we used Knapp’s (1978) stage model of relationship for this task. The qualitative study was to identify the stages of romantic development using the Facebook, and search for the meanings of declaring oneself as “In a Relationship” with another user on Facebook. Results revealed users consider the Facebook as the important role for romantic relationship development, and change the way of making friends, and even change the way for gathering potential partners’ information. Users also consider Facebook as the important role for increasing the level of bonding commitment in romance development. The results differed in stages of development models between the traditional and Facebook, the use of Facebook made relational maintenance appears earlier than the traditional model way does.
