Both the 360-degree video and animated techniques of immersive journalism
create a new type of sensory experience beyond types on traditional media.
VR technology rethinks the way of manufacturing news stories can be told in
journalism by changing the role of the journalist. Based on in-depth interviewing
with professionals and students, this article examines the impact of the 360-degree
video technology to illustrate the transformation of digital journalism. This paper
argues the new technology called for new journalism and new role of journalists. It
is important to rethink the practice of journalists when they adopt VR technology
that are not formed in the era of traditional mass media.
