News headlines are an important part of news concepts. According to the Pew
Research report, readers only spend 17 minutes to read news per day. Many readers
know about news only depend on the accuracy of news headlines. As a core value
for news coverage, the study of news headlines is very important. If the speculative
languages appear in news headlines, it will affect the principle of news objectivity
and readers' cognition of the news. This study examines whether speculative
languages are used in tech news headlines between paywall and brand with
content analysis, and there is a positive correlation conclusion between speculative
language headlines and user's thumbs up numbers.
