This study explores the network of journalists among social platforms based on the Affordance Theory. Through in-depth interviews with twelve journalists of different generations, we explored how journalists execute strategic tactics on social platforms, how they respond, and how it influences their interpersonal relationships.
The study found that journalists started using Facebook as a social platform, and after sensing the change in the connotation of Facebook, they tried to adjust their behaviors until Facebook could no longer satisfy their needs. Journalists started shifting over to using Instagram and creating multiple Facebook accounts as their tactics.
In many situations, journalists will not completely refrain from Facebook, which shows that they are not willing to throw away the connection that they have established. The design of using Facebook's original purpose has been turned into a useful resource, and it has been changed from a simple friendship medium to a tool for news. Whereas, Instagram becomes a personal account to record their life.
