In recent years, social media have become an important platform for people to discuss mental illnesses. However, it is also possible that more complex and subtle forms of discrimination may exist on social media. In 2021, RD(阿滴), a Taiwanese YouTuber whose channel has over 2 million subscribers, confessed that he was officially diagnosed with depression. He explained the causes of his health issue in his YouTube video, and how complex these interweaving reasons are. However, netizens on Dcard, the popular forum among Taiwanese college students, tended to view it as a linear attribution and claimed that RD should be accountable for his own disease. With the Sociocognitive Approach (SCA), this study illustrates the discourse strategies used by netizens to define RD and depression patients as Other, and to construct an irresponsible figure which is a burden to society.
