As an emerging tide in the last decade, however, live streaming has received limited discussion in the field of political communication. This paper takes Correspondent Inference Theory as a theoretical framework to investigate how live streaming, as a form of synchronous communication, can build the audiences’ perceived political authenticity upon politicians, which in turn create positive attitude and political trust toward politicians when they are watching Politicians’ live-streaming video. The study uses a Web survey and finds that synchronous communication leads to a higher level of political authenticity for audiences compared to asynchronous communication. Moreover, the effect is stronger if the politician shares the same party position with the audience. Finally, the increased political authenticity also increases the audiences’ positive attitude and political trust in the politician.
