This research examined the influence of negative political news frames on the feelings people generate in response to campaign news. Preparing and conducting this investigation involved the use of a multiple-method strategy. Content analysis identified two news frames (i.e., issue frame and image frame) and one experiment induced political cynicism and attribution of responsibility. One hundred eighty students participated in the experimental study, in which they read and responded to the amount of negative news and frames of news. Results demonstrated that participants were more likely to generate more cynical reaction and hold politicians responsibility for Taiwan ’s problems when being exposed to more negative news. Participants being exposed to issue frame were more likely to hold institutions for being responsible for country’s illness than those exposed to image frames.
