With the popularity of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW), web-based newspapers become prevailing rapidly in the recent years. Web-based newspapers are different from traditional printed newspaper in designing and packaging message effectively. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of photographs and related news blocks presentation modes on readers ’ recognition tests and attitudes in a web-based newspaper environment.
This study found that photographs appear to be especially influential in helping individuals efficiently understand and recall information, which both directly - through the affect on reader visual satisfaction and reader enjoyment - led to higher information recall. And the display of the related news blocks connected to the readers ’ opportunities to get the messages. Thus, improvements in the appearance of the web-based newspapers ’ interface could help readers easier to read.
