This paper engages to examine the study of journalism history in Taiwan. It is based on the analytical framework that, in the dialectic historical process, at different phases of political transition, the historical study in Taiwan has undergone changes. Under the long authoritarian rule, historical writings provided particular interpretations, excluded others, and resulted in social amnesia. It was not until the late 1970s, when the opposition rose, that alternative views emerged from below. With the current political liberalization, different groups are recollecting their memories, which forecast the dawning of a new journalism history. In prospect, this paper suggests that future researchers should explore how different cultures have come and converged into a unique one, in order to broaden the historical horizon of this field.
