This cross-sectional study attempts to elaborate the determinants and the consequences of body dissatisfaction among female college students in Taiwan. 232 female college students enrolled at a university located at middle Taiwan completed the self-administered questionnaire. The structural equation modeling analyses showed that body mass index (BMI), social criticism, and upward social comparison were positively predictive of body dissatisfaction, which, in turn, affected the intention to loose weight. This study also suggests that future studies can focus on factors affecting body dissatisfaction among male college students.
