There is no doubt that the course of Communication Theory in the graduate school is highly important. Communication theory itself, however, has a great variety of coverage, which not only makes students confused but makes teachers disagree with each other on what to teach as well. In order to improve this situation, this paper reviews the works of James Carey and Robert Craig on the coverage of communication theory first, and then tries to identify the problems we are facing. Five suggestions are being proposed at the end of this paper.
