The internet ’s impacts on society and culture have long been a popular issue since its emergence. Researchers, however, hardly place their interests on the changing journalism. Based upon the characteristics of the internet, this study attempts to analyze its influences over several aspects of journalism, including the newsroom, the sources, the audience, the ethics, and the construction of facts. The study also discusses two major cases, exploring feasible ideas for internet ’s journalistic profession.
According to the cases, news media has widely adopted the messages flowing on the internet as news sources. Due to the characteristic of interactivity, people can easily publish their messages online, resulting in a transformation in relationship between the media and the audience. It is expected that the audience will play an active role in the digital age, which will significantly challenge the way of news processing in media organizations.
