This research investigates the presented genres of open letters under the conflict situation by generic criticism and tries to understand the discursive models and meanings of open letters by this initiative analysis. The observations point out that under the conflict situation the addressers not only express the conflicting points and standpoints in-between within discursive contents but also tend to rationalize this behavior (opening the private letters to the public). At the same time, in the letters the addressers may propose propositions in order to solve the conflicting events. Besides, as for the convincing measures, the addressers almost adopt artistic ones, but still take logos as the main measure on the whole. Owing to the instrumental ties between the addressers and addressees, the former may place the importance on fairness and reasoning in these letters. But all the addressers still have a tendency to regard the addressees as the mistake-makers in the conflicts. This kind of cognitive attitude which is easy to engender prejudice may have bad influences on resolving the conflicts themselves. Actually, when the addressers publicize the private conflicts by open letters, they also take “mass” as the addressee. They not only attempt to gain much more power by gathering the pressure from public opinion but also try to make impression management again before “mass” through open letters.
