This study has focused on the context of distribution companies in which the Hollywood majors exist in Taiwan. At the beginning of the mid-forty, the domestic films in Taiwan were popular and had prospered. However, after secession from the ruling of Japanese, the social context was that the KMT government was dependent on the American military and the economic aid. Meanwhile, the America government gave support to the Hollywood Majors and these companies possessing expanding ambition distributed their films to foreign markets. Since then, the distribution companies of Hollywood Majors have been earned enormous revenues from the Taiwan market.
The structure of this article is composed of exploring the expanding strategies of the Hollywood Majors and the influence of the domestic policy on the Hollywood Majors in Taiwan. The subjects include the progress of Hollywood overseas distribution, especially the social context in Taiwan, the transition of these distribution corporations, and the in-depth interviews of the domestic policy. From the discussion of these subjects, we are able to know the changing situations and accumulate the fact of the context. Therefore the mechanism of Hollywood Majors distribution and their dynamic development processes in Taiwan are explored.
