Issue management strategies and response models: An examination of system theory, resource dependency theory, and institutional theory
The present study attempts to explore the issues management strategies and response models of three industries--automobile, computer, and consumer electronics toward the issue of resource recycling. System theory, resource dependency theory and institutional theory are applied as the theoretical basis of the study.
The life-cycle of the resource recycling issue was built up via documents and media analysis. Interviews with 9 corporate managers helped illustrate their strategies and responses for the issue.
Results revealed that the three industries used multiple channels to scan the development of the recycle policy. Both active response and passive response were used by the industries. Of more importance, each industry used communication, participation and compliance strategies for issue management. More evidence was also found to support the theories used in the study.
