The purpose of this study is to review the definitions of the news media as well as to criticize such assertion which says that the media "mirror" events in the society. In addition, this paper provides an alternative explanation about the relationship between news reporting and news reality by applying the theory of news framing.
Three levels of news frames were introduced in the paper: On the organizational level, news routines, newsroom control, and professionalism were considered as factors which "frame" the process of news-making. On the personal level, a cognitive interpretation was used as examples to show how news reporters would be heavily influenced by own schemata in reporting. On the textual level, it was said in the paper that themes, scripts, rhetoric, words and terms all contribute to the existence of news frames.
