Intercultural communication is generally regarded as the study of communication of people with differing cultural backgrounds. In research, "Intercultural communication" is used as an overall term for international communication, cross-cultural communication, interracial communication, interethnic communication, intracultural communication, and intergroup communication, etc. During recent years, the field has developed enormously from what we study, how we study, to theories we use and develop. This paper looks at the trend in these areas where I observe by covering the history of intercultural communication and discussing the field, in terms of topics studied, methods used, and outlet of our research.
