The advent of a new era of telecommunications and human interconnection brings with it questions of identity, community, the place of the individual in a globalizing society, and the connectedness that stems from the information superhighway. How can communication scholars make contributions to help people face these questions in the globalizing society? This paper attempts to examine this problem by proposing a research outline through which communication scholars can identity key issues in the process of research. The outline comprises four research areas: Redefinition of the sense of community, dialectics of cultural identity and cultural diversity, impact of global media, and citizenship in the global society.
