The SARS coverage from foreign correspondents based in China reflects many aspects discussed by risk reporting or risk communication experts, namely opinion-oriented and lack of scientific statistics. This current research aims to compare reports dispatched by foreign correspondents based in China and reports from Taiwanese local media, in a hope to see how different social and political environments affect their SARS coverage. In contrast to Taiwan ’s open and dynamic society, China in a way reflects a closed society without media playing the role to supervise the government and its administration. Therefore, foreign correspondents ’ coverage mainly criticize the government, playing the role to supervise the government, and as a window for the international communities to understand China.
