The female symbols contained in Ing-wen Tsai’s campaign materials were full of Patriarchal ideology and Feminism ideology, which failed to fulfill the concept of gender equality-- “ The young and unmarried ladies were independent female who were brave to defend their rights. On the contrary, once women married and organized a family, they became caregivers. Doing housework was their primary duties.” Meanwhile, men was absent from this labor of private domain. Plus, Ing-wen Tsai’ political party platform of children care and long-term care couldn’t truly protect female’s interests.
The incomplete concept of gender equality contained in female symbols was accepted and recognized by many electors. These campaign materials preserved and reproduced Patriarchal ideology, they also strengthened the uneven division of labor according to the gender perspective. In conclusion, this research indicates that the birth of first female president in Taiwan can’t represent the progress of Feminism.
