Taking agricultural communication (AC) students as examples, electroencephalography as a major research tool, the present study analyzes the brainwave patterns of the five imaginative-capacity indicators to extend and improve previous studies. The results indicated that the right hemispheres of the student brain were activated under the stimulation of pictorial representations. The results also determined that though the brainwave patterns of the five indicators vary to each other, α waves were stronger in right temporal cortex; β waves were more activated in both right fronto-parietal and right temporo-occipital cortexes; and γ wave activities were more associated with right temporal cortex, compared to other brain areas. Brainwave patterns provide more robust scientific evidences regarding imagination stimulation than prior research. The outcomes of this fundamental study which linked communication design to cognitive neuroscience offer a concrete foundation for future applied research and diverse educational practices.
