In this paper, the author intends to clarify in a systematic way the media roles in the risk society, which, proposed by Ulrich Beck, is a significant term to analyze the contemporary society. First, I would make clear the particular role and functions of mass media (mainly on news media) in the risk society; further, in order to see whether or not the media could make any contribution to the democratization of risk-governing, and how it makes such a contribution, I would try to articulate the idea of public journalism from U.S. with the theory of risk society. By this manner, I would reconstruct the media role in the risk society and make an effort to the democratization of risk politics.
