Is there a tendency toward tabloidization in international news coverage in Taiwan? That is a key point this study would like to make. By examining international news coverage in two prestigious daily newspapers in Taiwan, this researcher took a content analysis approach, building up indexes of tabloidization to measure the tendency toward tabloidization over the past decade. The results show that between 1996 and 2005, there was a tendency towards tabloidization. In regards to news topics, there was more soft news in 2005 than in 1996, and the percentage of soft news as headline news was higher. As for visual elements, news photos and headline size in 2005 coverage was bigger than 1996, on average. In addition, even though there is a changing environment towards tabloidization, international news in Taiwanese newspapers still covers more news from the United States, Canada or European countries. The international news flow is still mainly from powerful Western countries.
